Flat roofing PIR insulation specified for energy efficient apartments

Soaring above the quayside, Splash is a vibrant new residential development and is the latest addition to Ocean Village in Southampton. For the development's numerous flat roofs, high performance insulation was required to create a thermally efficient building envelope. To help achieve this, architects specified Celotex EL3000 for its ability to future-proof the energy performance of the flagship development and achieve a U-value target of 0.10W/m2K.

Built by Linden Homes Southern, the elegantly designed apartments at Splash feature extensive balconies and roof terraces, with contemporary interiors. Built to offer high levels of energy efficiency, the apartments were designed to keep fuel bills to a minimum in line with a more sustainable way of life. For a quick and easy way to achieve this in the building's flat roof application, Celotex provided its innovative EL3000 insulation boards.

"The energy efficiency of the apartments at Ocean Village was a key consideration when designing the scheme," commented Dominic Chapman of architects JTP. "With this in mind we specified Celotex EL3000 boards for the building's flat roof, chosen for their exceptional performance and ability to achieve the desired U value."

Specially designed for use in built-up flat roofing applications, EL3000 has an excellent lambda value that far exceeds other insulation types. With a glass tissue facer, perforated on one side, it is suitable for either bituminous or single-ply roofing and provides a quick and easy method of achieving effective thermal insulation in flat roofing structures.

Alongside its excellent thermal properties, which lowers heating requirements and thereby CO2 emissions, Celotex EL3000 has low Global Warming Potential and zero Ozone Depletion Potential. This has led to it holding an ‘A' Rating when compared to the BRE Green Guide, which means it achieves 15% less environmental impact than traditional PIR solutions.

Celotex insulation is incredibly durable as it does not rot, is dimensionally stable and unaffected by temperature cycles. It also does not corrode or degrade on contact with welding chemicals, used in conjunction with many flat roofing systems. EL3000 comes in a range of thicknesses and in two different lengths of board - 600mm and 2,400mm - it is easily cut to shape on site.
