Lightweight steel frames are a fast, economic way of providing the shell for new domestic and commercial buildings. Like any other form of wall construction, however, correct detailing of the thermal insulation helps to make sure the building doesn’t suffer greater heat loss than necessary.

Steel, like any metal, has a very high thermal conductivity and thermal insulation is best installed as a continuous layer - typically on the outside of the frame. Rigid polyisocyanurate (PIR) boards can be supplemented by either flexible insulation or carefully cut rigid boards between the steel studs, to help deliver buildings that are comfortable to work in and enjoy lower energy bills.

Celotex currently does not offer a product for use in applications above 18m. If you have any questions, please contact Celotex Technical.
