Environmental

We take our environmental responsibility seriously; developing insulation solutions to protect both the UK’s built environment and the natural environment. In fact, all of our manufacturing plants are certified to ISO 14001, ISO 50001 and ISO 9001: 2008 and use 0% CO2 electricity. Our objective is to maximise our contribution to sustainable development whilst reducing our impact on the environment.

Manufacturing in Runcorn of our ISOVER UK structural building and technical insulation ranges achieves Eurofins ‘Gold’ standard for indoor air quality, Saint-Gobain Insulation UK’s thermal and acoustic insulation products are manufactured in accordance with the UKCA and CE marking requirements, under the Construction Products Directive, and to BS EN standards.

Waste Management and Recycling

We continually monitors the levels of waste from all of its activities and drives and implements procedures which reduce the amount of waste produced.

Elements of the packaging used to protect Celotex products in transit have recycled content and are also recyclable. These include stretch wrap, cardboard banding, chipboard/wood bearers and plastic strapping.

ISOVER’s glass mineral wool products are made from up to 82% recycled glass material and the product packaging is entirely recyclable. The yellow batt film and clear top film, yellow roll film, clear multipack compression film and clear stretch film are manufactured from 100% low density polyethylene (LDPE). Recycling LDPE products is simple and can be handled at most supermarkets (recycling centres). Doing so is free and will help guarantee that the material can be used again in the future. In turn, recycled LDPE products can be transformed into bin liners, plastic furniture and floor tiles in the future.

Distribution

We are proud to have an overarching sustainability approach, which looks to push greener solutions across a number of operations. We work to continually improve our efforts in sustainability with not just our products and packaging, but also through reducing our carbon footprint in our distribution process.

This approach saw us partnering with leading automotive manufacturer, Volvo, to update a fleet of our delivery vehicles that distribute Celotex products throughout the UK. The exciting partnership will save up to 1,300 tonnes of carbon emissions each year, bringing us closer to achieving our own long-term environmental objectives, as well as the objectives of the wider Saint-Gobain organisation.

The fourteen new vehicles use an innovative system called high pressure direct ignition (HPDI), which allows them to maintain performance whilst reducing carbon emissions. Volvo’s HPDI technology creates an ignition cycle which uses less fuel than a gas-only spark ignition system, and creates up to 20% less emissions than a standard diesel system. In simple terms, LNG engines emit significantly less CO2 per mile than the diesel equivalent. The fleet is primarily fuelled with bio-methane based LNG from renewable sources making the total reduction in emissions even more dramatic.
