Understanding Section 6 (Energy) 2010, Scotland

October 2010 saw the introduction of the new update to Section 6 (Energy) of the Scotland Domestic Technical Handbook.  This calls for a 30% reduction in carbon emissions compared to 2007 levels. A fundamental part of the revised Regulations is the significant improvements in U-values within the building fabric. Typically meeting this level of improvement will require 45% or more insulation.

As an aid to help you we have produced a 'Quick Guide to Understanding Section 6' that takes you through the key highlights. These include recommended new target U-values to help with compliance as well as an insight to tighter demands on thermal bridging, air leakage and party walls.

Achieving a 30% reduction in CO₂ emissions could result in U-values as low as 0.10 W/m²K being required. Our super low lambda of 0.021 W/mK offers better U-values and thinner solutions making compliance all the more achievable and helping meet your design needs.
