Reinforcing its position as the brand leading producer of PIR (polyisocyanurate) insulation, Celotex has announced another step through the technological barrier – with the majority of its product ranges being enhanced to a super low lambda of 0.022W/mK.
Celotex’ improved thermal efficiency allows architects and specifiers to meet the Building Regulations with greater ease. With Part L of the Building Regulations coming into effect in October 2010, high performance PIR products play an essential part in achieving the 25% reduction in carbon emissions required.
The main advantage of the lambda enhancement is in the improved U-values it offers. This allows specifiers to opt for thinner solutions to meet requirements, improving useable space between 5-10mm and reducing material costs simultaneously. Likewise, for schemes where the utmost degree of insulation is required, enhanced targets can be met for the minimum of product thickness.
Celotex prides itself on staying at the forefront of insulation technology to offer specifiers and installers the most versatile and efficient products. To reflect the thermal improvement of Celotex products they will now be re-branded from 3000 series to 4000, allowing specifiers and installers to identify the new lambda 22 products.
“The real magic is in the innovation. Here at Celotex, we’re always striving to develop the best products, so that contractors, architects and specifiers can access the perfect materials for their projects. Improving the thermal performance of our products really illustrates the company’s dedication to innovation in insulation,” said Paul Evans, Product Manager for Celotex.
“That commitment seals our position at the forefront of the PIR sector. The 4000 series is just one of our achievements this year – and our technicians are still working hard to discover new breakthroughs in PIR technology.”

Drawing on the technology of pioneering Celotex FR4000 insulation boards,Celotex SL4000 is ideal for application under any soffit that divides heated and unheated areas. As well as offering superb thermal efficiency, the calcium silicate laminate provides impact resistance, additional fire performance and speed of installation.
Underneath the hardwearing laminate is a state of the art PIR foam. It is this that gives Celotex SL4000 its remarkable thermal efficiency of 0.022 W/mK. The integrated product achieves low U-values with minimum levels of thickness – providing reliable long term energy savings for buildings.
This thermal performance plays a key role in cutting heating costs and thereby the nation’s carbon emissions. With low Global Warming Potential and zero Ozone Depletion Potential, Celotex SL4000 has excellent qualities in sustainability. This has led to the insulation component attaining an ‘A’ rating when compared to the BRE Green Guide 2008 for its outstanding environmental pedigree.
SL4000 also excels in fire performance. The entire insulation product is rated to Class ‘O’ for fire safety. With the addition of a laminate of calcium silicate improving its fire resistance even further, it is an ideal choice for any area where optimum safety is required, such as underground car parks.
Available in a standard board size of 1,200mm x 2,400mm, SL4000 comes in a range of thicknesses from 50mm to 120mm, with an extra 6mm for calcium silicate. It offers uniform thermal and fire performance throughout the product for ease of specification. Unlike phenolic and fibre insulation it does not retain moisture, reducing the risk of damp and ensuring its performance in all conditions.
Non-corrosive and non-friable, SL4000 boards prove exceptionally workable. Extremely lightweight, when compared to other products, they are exceptionally easy to install. Mechanically fixed to the concrete soffit, they need no decoration once in place.
Celotex SL4000 is partnered by the unlaminated FR4000, for pitched roof, floor and wall applications and CG4000 for partial fill cavity walls. The innovative product range, the result of extensive development by Celotex’ technicians, has set a new standard within the PIR insulation sector.
Paul Evans, Product Manager for Celotex, commented, “we are especially proud of Celotex SL4000, representing a highly functional innovation in PIR technology. The introduction of SL4000 stands as further evidence of our continued investment in innovative PIR solutions and underlines our brand leading market position”.
Granting the user an ideal solution for exposed and semi-exposed applications, Celotex SL4000 offers leading thermal performance combined with fire and impact resistance all in one product. With the need to meet the standards of energy efficiency of the future, SL4000 grants specifiers a means of simply ensuring that concrete applications such as soffit floors are well insulated.

Market leading producer of PIR (polyisocyanurate) insulation Celotex has launched a new insulation board, specifically designed for hot-applied flat roofing applications. Specially developed by the company’s team of expert technicians, the new product offers contractors an easy and clean product to install and architects the desired U-values at the lowest insulation thickness.
All new TC3000 insulation boards are designed for use with pour and roll, torch-on and mastic asphalt applications. Thanks to the product’s bitumen polypropylene fleece facers, it provides a perfect seal between bitumen products and insulation.
As a highly thermally efficient PIR product suitable for torch-on applications, it achieves low U-values with minimum thickness ranging from 50mm - 150mm. This offers great financial and time savings as it can reduce the need for the double installation of insulation, often required with thinner products.
Alongside its advantages in hot roofing applications, Celotex TC3000 has many other benefits associated with the rest of Celotex’ extensive insulation range. With low Global Warming Potential and zero Ozone Depletion Potential, it holds excellent sustainable credentials. This has led to it achieving an ‘A’ Rating when compared to the BRE Green Guide 2008 and makes it a perfect partner for new builds or renovations with green aims.
Responding to market demand, TC3000 does not have a sanded face like other bitumen ready boards. Many installers have told Celotex that these facers are both messy and ineffective, so the company designed the boards without them to meet its aim of providing the most user friendly products available.
Able to accept trafficking from contractors during installation, Celotex TC3000 proves exceptionally workable. Though strong and durable, it is lightweight, making for hassle free transport to rooftops, and can be cut on site with hand tools. Once in place, its thermal performance is extremely long lasting. The new product also holds excellent dimensional stability and is unaffected by temperature cycles.
Celotex TC3000 is non-corrosive, non-friable and will not degrade when used in conjunction with hot-applied systems. It is available in a standard board size of 1200mm x 600mm that holds uniform thermal performance throughout the product.
Paul Evans, Product Manager of Celotex, commented, "We are delighted to extend our flat roofing portfolio through the launch of Celotex TC3000. The introduction of TC3000 represents further evidence of our continued investment in innovative PIR solutions and underlines our brand leading market position."
The new addition to Celotex’ range of innovative PIR insulation emphasises the company’s mission to provide the construction market with materials that best meet its needs. With hot applied flat roof applications well established in the UK building sector, Celotex TC3000 grants specifiers and installers a thermally efficient, simple and cost effective method of insulating such rooftops.
