An independent BRE assessment has proven that Celotex offers the most sustainable PIR insulation, with the products achieving the lowest environmental impact and carbon footprint scores. With the company also offering the broadest range of thickest and thinnest PIR boards, Celotex can make a real positive contribution to a project’s environmental performance.

Using the BRE assessment, a comparison can be made of Celotex boards to those of competitors on a number of key indicators such as Eco-Points, carbon emissions and transport pollution and congestion. Celotex achieved the best results on all counts, with all profiles taking a ‘cradle to grave’ approach to ensure the full lifetime environmental impact of the product was taken into account. The calculations included raw material extraction, manufacture, distribution, life-time performance and disposal.

Celotex products have already achieved an A rating in the’ 2002 Green Guide to Specification’ and can be used to earn credits in the ‘Materials’, ‘Energy & CO2 Emissions’ and ‘Pollution’ sections of the Code for Sustainable Homes. The products have low Global Warming Potential and zero Ozone Depletion Potential ratings.

Further information on Celotex and sustainability, including a downloadable copy of the company’s environmental policy and data and the full range of BRE environmental profiles are available from the sustainability pages.

At Celotex we’ve set a new standard with our brand new and revolutionary fire resistant PIR insulation board. Representing the next generation of insulation, FR4000 is the most cost effective, thermally efficient product, offering Class O performance. And amazingly it’s the only rigid insulation board that offers Class O performance throughout the product – not just the foam core!

Featuring a rigid polyisocyanurate foam core with low emissivity textured aluminium facers that allow for greater thermal performance, using FR4000 will mean that some applications may require up to 5mm less product, saving space and cost!

With enhanced thermal properties and improved fire performance FR4000 truly is the next generation of PIR insulation. And what is more, it is easier to use and handle than phenolic equivalents.

CG4000 for cavity walls
Featuring the same performance characteristics as FR4000, CG4000 is available in convenient smaller board sizes and is suitable for cavity wall applications.

Available from this website, ‘Celotex Sustainability & The Road to Zero Carbon’ is a concise overview of the issue of sustainability and the key milestones that lay ahead as the industry works towards achieving zero carbon buildings by 2019.

The guide also includes Celotex’ performance on a number of key indicators such as Eco-Points, carbon emissions and transport pollution and congestion.

The company’s environmental and sustainability statement is also included. The guide, plus the full range of BRE environmental profiles are available from the Sustainability page.

Insulation specialists, Celotex, are in the process of rolling out a completely new transport fleet. Known locally as "The Pink Ladies" because of their bright new livery colours, these trucks also pull their weight in the environmental stakes.

Celotex took a decision to replace its contract fleet earlier than required to a fleet of more efficient MAN trucks; with a unique exhaust gas management technology the new trucks will improve fuel consumption and reduce CO2 emissions.

Richard Pemberton, Chief Executive comments: "Given our product is volumetric, we aim to ensure maximum utilisation of each and every vehicle loaded for dispatch by Celotex and are currently running at an impressive average of 93.42%. We have also reduced our use of less efficient rigid vehicles by a staggering 83.75%. These two measurements have actually helped Celotex reduce the number of actual vehicles loaded, which is better for the environment and the road networks."

"Bio-fuels in LGVs is an area under development and the progress is being monitored by us as there is an opportunity to further reduce CO2 emissions and save fuel costs."

Magnus Group Ltd of Great Blakenham, Ipswich have also simultaneously renewed their agreement as Celotex' official contract distribution provider. Magnus Group have supplied Celotex with 20 Schmitz Cargobull 13.6 metre curtain sided trailers carrying the striking new corporate design, to be pulled by 15 new MAN TGA XLX tractor units. In addition to the new distribution fleet, Magnus Group also provide dedicated site shunt vehicles, trailers and drivers.

Celotex has launched a completely updated, improved and expanded version of its Handy Guide; the essential guide to PIR thermal insulation for the professional.

Now nearly 50% bigger, the new Handy Guide includes such invaluable features as easy-to-use ready reckoners, extensive U-value calculations that show at a glance what can be achieved with each board thickness in a particular application, detailed illustrations and clear installation guidelines.

Other technical information relating to specific constructions includes, for example, a more extensive section on calculating P/A ratios for floor insulation; reflecting the ever-increasing use of PIR in flooring applications due to its better thermal performance than other insulation types.

Also new in the guide, and responding to the increasing trend towards 'improve rather than move' are completely new sections covering loft and garage conversions. All of which adds up to essential reading for anyone looking to install PIR thermal insulation.

Complementing the Handy Guide is a completely new guide aimed at roofing contractors. The Flat Roof Handy Guide, draws on all the favourite features of the Handy Guide - including calculations, technical information, illustrations and installation guidelines - to produce an essential guide to flat roofing applications.

Both guides include clear and concise explanations of the requirements of UK Building Regulations, including Approved Document L for new and existing dwellings in England and Wales and Section 6 of the Scottish Building Regulations.

The guides are available free of charge at leading merchants and can also be downloaded from the literature pages of the website.

The Handy Guide and the Flat Roof Guide Handy represent just one aspect of Celotex' industry-leading technical support. The Celotex Technical Service Advisory Centre offers comprehensive levels of advice on all aspects of product selection and compliance with Building Regulations. The website, celotex.co.uk gives further technical information and offers a free of charge online U-value calculator and access to a SAP calculation service.
The UKs first 200mm thick PIR insulation board is now available from Celotex. With some developers and builders currently using two boards to achieve increased thickness of insulation, Celotex 200mm board enables builders to achieve high levels of insulation in one product offering cost and time savings and also reducing the amount of material that needs to be stored on site. The 200mm product is available in one 1200mm x 2400mm board size and is aimed at cut to fit applications between rafters and joists and also for floors.

Forming part of the XR3000 range, the new board has been introduced as part of the on-going drive to produce more thermally efficient buildings and to help meet the requirements of the Code for Sustainable Homes which calls for improvements in levels of thermal efficiency beyond those set out by current regulations as it works towards the building of zero carbon homes by 2016.

Richard Pemberton, Chief Executive of Celotex says: The demand for greater energy efficiency continues and the 200mm product is another step towards making the UKs homes more sustainable. We pushed the boundaries of PIR technology with our 165mm thick product and this latest development is a testament to our manufacturing capabilities and expertise within the insulation sector.

Celotex is the UKs leading manufacturer of high performance PIR insulation boards. Its range encompasses the thinnest and thickest boards available to the construction industry. As an innovator within the insulation sector, Celotex is committed to an extensive programme of research and development. All of the company’s products are manufactured at its plant in Suffolk, from where its dedicated Technical Support team offers advice and calculations for compliance with building regulations.
